8/5/2023 0 Comments News source infographic![]() This is another tell that the article you’re reading is providing suspect information. Advising readers to “do their own research.” Or at least read it with the knowledge that you’re not getting all the facts. If you want to remain as unbiased a consumer of news as possible, avoid publications that include this kind of shouty, inflammatory rhetoric. This type of language appears in media on each of the far sides of the political spectrum, so don’t assume your “side” is immune. Headlines with provocative adjectives and verbs like “RADICAL,” “DESTROY,” and “HUMILIATE” are a sign that the publication you are reading is extremely biased-whether it’s biased toward the left or to the right. Incendiary language is the most obvious sign that an article or publication is biased. Use of incendiary language, especially when coupled with caps. ![]() So let’s talk about four ways to quickly identify biased reporting without consulting an infographic. If you get familiar with what these clues are, you’ll be able to quickly tell whether the publication you’re reading can be taken at face value, or whether you need to dig deeper for a more accurate account of the story-regardless of what you’re reading. Every unreliable or untrue story has clues laced throughout its text that reveal its bias. You know how, in poker, if you study the facial expressions and body language of the other players, you eventually begin to pick up “tells” that clue you in to the kind of hand they have? Well, news publications have “tells” too. But there are other ways to tell if a text you’re reading is biased. I have found the graphic above to be accurate as far as its assessment of which news publications are the most neutral and thoroughly reported. But if a person can’t even trust the fact checkers, how can they possibly determine what’s real and what is “fake news”? High schoolers and college students are taught to “consider the source,” but what happens when the sources you have always considered reliable are now called into question? Where do you turn? The interesting thing that has been happening lately, though, is that an entire alternate reality has come gurgling to the forefront-a reality that says that the fact checkers and media bias analysis sites are themselves biased. As maligned as Wikipedia is for being unreliable due to its public editability, this page in particular is remarkably reliable and commonly used as a source guide for publications looking to cite other publications as sources as they report on related stories. Wikipedia also has an excellent article that details an alphabetical list of publications and rates them according to reliability.

8/5/2023 0 Comments Corona weather year round![]() So the first problem with this myth is that we don’t know whether those coronaviruses, which go by the evocative names like OC43, HKU1, 229E, and NL63, are good analogies for this virus. Predicting how a novel virus will behave based on how others behave is always speculative, but sometimes we have to do so when we have little else to go on. ![]() Myth 2: The “common cold” coronaviruses are seasonal, with little transmission in the summer, so SARS-CoV-2 will be too. The resurgence confirms that it was control measures that stopped transmission the first time. This resurgence was eventually linked to a case from the first wave. In Toronto, SARS resurged after the initial wave was controlled and precautions were discontinued. These worked well for SARS because those who were most infectious were also quite ill in a distinctive way - the sick cases were the transmitters, so isolating the sick curbed transmission. These involved isolating cases, quarantining their contacts, a measure of “social distancing,” and other intensive efforts. It was killed by extremely intense public health interventions in mainland Chinese cities, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Canada and elsewhere. Myth 1: In 2003, SARS went away on its own as the weather got warmer. ![]() The short answer is that while we may expect modest declines in the contagiousness of SARS-CoV-2 in warmer, wetter weather and perhaps with the closing of schools in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, it is not reasonable to expect these declines alone to slow transmission enough to make a big dent.īefore making the positive case for my assertions, let me start by busting some myths. Some have even suggested that the experience with SARS in 2003 provides evidence for this assertion. Several people, including the US president, have suggested that the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the disease it causes, COVID-19, will go away on its own in the warmer weather that will come in the Northern Hemisphere in coming months. Professor of Epidemiology and Director, Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, Harvard T.H. 8/5/2023 0 Comments Dirt rally vs project cars![]() Enough, presumably, to help the forthcoming virtual reality support make you feel like you’re actually driving a rally stage in a rally car during a rally championship.īut the outside models such as the people in the crowd, the foliage on the floor and the surfaces below your tyres are more Xbox 360 than Xbox One. Inside the car, you can see all the switchgear in suitably impressive detail in most cars. Then there’s the visual aesthetic of DiRT Rally 2.0. Fixable in future updates, especially as Codemasters has acknowledged their existence to me, but annoying nonetheless. There’s a weird graphical shimmer every now and then, while the views where you get a head-up display speedometer glitches and you see a black square behind it. Not only that, DiRT Rally 2.0’s graphics can be distracting. There are times when the game feels V-Rally 4 fast, but most of the time it’s the opposite. ![]() The sensation of speed seems muted, with 65mph feeling like 35mph, making it easy to misjudge your entry speed into a corner. To be fair, it’s not just that I need a lot of practice. Just one little mistake and you’re upside down in a tree. ![]() With a decent steering wheel, DiRT Rally 2.0 is much less frustrating although I’m dubious if a group B rally car would actually be that difficult to drive at moderate speeds in real life. Minus the G-forces, ability to actually die and the smell coming from your co-driver’s trousers after a near miss, of course. You have to be so delicate with every input that it’s mentally tiring to drive fast, mirroring the real life experience. A constant struggle between wanting to go fast but keep on the road. It’s at this point and with the interior cockpit view, of which one features the steering wheel and the other doesn’t, that DiRT Rally 2.0 proves most challenging. DiRT Rally 2.0 review: DiRTY thoughtsīeing the sucker for pain that I am, I switched off all assists. Or, at least, far fewer dents in your polygon-based rally car. I can also tell you that you need the reactions of Lewis Hamilton to save a slide in a Group B rally car, that front wheel drive cars are hugely forgiving and that driving smoothly is the key to success. But I can tell you it’s not for the faint-hearted. Having played DiRT Rally 2.0 for around eight hours, using both a controller and steering wheel ( Thrustmaster TS-XW), I am unqualified to tell you everything about the game. Well, half-decent 3D as you’ll read later. The satisfying highs and the soul-crushing lows of the motorsport delivered to your television in glorious 3D. Like McRae was a rally master, DiRT Rally 2.0 is a rally masterclass in terms of realism. But what you may not know is that the decimal bit is a nod to the classic Colin McRae games from yesteryear. In case you hadn’t guessed from the number, DiRT Rally 2.0 is the sequel to DiRT Rally. In my DiRT Rally 2.0 review, I put the latest Codemasters rally simulator, available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, through its paces – and end up crashing a lot. 8/5/2023 0 Comments Flamingo shirts![]() Select the style and you want (t-shirt, women's t-shirts, long-sleeve shirt, or hoodie)2. While the clavichord allowed expressive control of volume and sustain, it was too quiet for large performances. A friend of the family by the name of Sebastian LeBlanc suggested the idea to switch the black and white keys The three Cristofori pianos that survive today date from the 1720s. An inventory made by his employers, the Medici family, indicates the existence of a piano by the year 1700 another document of doubtful authenticity indicates a date of 1698. It is not known exactly when Cristofori first built a piano. He was an expert harpsichord maker, and was well acquainted with the body of knowledge on stringed keyboard instruments. The invention of the modern piano is credited to Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655–1731) of Padua, Italy, who was employed by Ferdinando de' Medici, Grand Prince of Tuscany, as the Keeper of the Instruments. Centuries of work on the mechanism of the harpsichord in particular had shown the most effective ways to construct the case, soundboard, bridge, and keyboard. In a clavichord the strings are struck by tangents, while in a harpsichord they are plucked by quills. By the 17th century, the mechanisms of keyboard instruments such as the clavichord and the harpsichord were well known. During the Middle Ages, there were several attempts at creating stringed keyboard instruments with struck strings. The first string instruments with struck strings were the hammered dulcimers. The piano was founded on earlier technological innovations. The musical terms "piano" and "forte" mean "quiet" and "loud," and in this context refers to the variations in volume of sound the instrument produces in response to a pianist's touch on the keys: the greater a key press's velocity, the greater the force of the hammer hitting the string(s), and the louder the note produced.Įarly piano replica by the modern builder Paul McNulty, after Walter & Sohn, 1805 The word piano is a shortened form of pianoforte, the Italian word for the instrument (which in turn derives from the previous terms "gravicembalo col piano e forte" and fortepiano). In the Hornbostel-Sachs system of instrument classification, pianos are considered chordophones. See the article on Piano key frequencies for a picture of the piano keyboard and the location of middle-C. ![]() When the key is released, a damper stops the string's vibration. The sound would otherwise be no louder than that directly produced by the strings. ![]() These vibrations are transmitted through a bridge to a sounding board that more efficiently couples the acoustic energy to the air. The hammers rebound, allowing the strings to continue vibrating at their resonant frequency. Pressing a key on the piano's keyboard causes a felt-covered hammer to strike steel strings. Although not portable and often expensive, the piano's versatility and ubiquity have made it one of the world's most familiar musical instruments. Widely used in classical and jazz music for solo performances, ensemble use, chamber music and accompaniment, the piano is also very popular as an aid to composing and rehearsal. It is one of the most popular instruments in the world. It's also most suitable of the True keys pianos for soft lyrical playing. The piano is a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. Smaller in scale than a 9 foot concert grand, it can be less obtrusive in a mix but still cut through when aggressively played. These pianos are known for their precision voicing, clear bell-like tones and deep bass. True Keys German puts you at the keys of the superb Bechstein© semi-concert grand and has the shortest length of the True Keys pianos at about 7 feet 5 inches. The Una Corda pedal is particularly expressive letting you go from whisper soft to a thunderous fortissimo instantly, with even voicing across the entire register. At a staggering 10 feet 2 inches in length, the instrument has immense power with long sustains and rich harmonics. Often crowned the World's best piano, the Fazioli F308© provides the sound for our Italian grand. True Keys Italian is the largest piano of this collection and has the brightest sound. This grand has a classic American sound and is a staple of stages and studios worldwide. It also has a dark delicate side, mellow and rich, especially when played with the stereo ribbon Side mic. ![]() With powerful bass, robust attack and deep sustaining overtones, this versatile instrument can rise above a full orchestra or stand out in a busy mix. True Keys American delivers the majestic sound of the Steinway D© nine foot concert grand. 8/4/2023 0 Comments Hidden water pools californiaThe surrounding landscape is indescribable.
